How They Came Up With The Idea
Ania Wysocka, while attending university far from her usual support network, began experiencing panic attacks. Without immediate help, she turned to her phone for relief but found no suitable resources. This lack of helpful tools prompted her, like many entrepreneurs before, to create a solution herself. The result was the development of Rootd, an app designed to provide relief for those suffering from anxiety and panic attacks. This initiative resonated well with many, marking her entry into the business world. Notably, Rootd is predominantly a solo venture, with Wysocka handling most operations herself, aside from a few tasks outsourced to contractors. Rootd has achieved remarkable success, amassing over 2 million users across more than 150 countries and enabling Wysocka to earn a five-figure income monthly.
How They Built The First Version
Ania`s journey of creating Rootd began after she had researched techniques and strategies to manage and overcome her own panic attacks and anxiety.  Motivated to help others in a similar situation, she decided to merge her graphic design skills with her newfound knowledge to create a resource tailored to her demographic.  The concept of Rootd started with paper and marker notes, illustrations, and wireframes in her notebook, eventually leading to the creation of a mascot named Ron, a disgruntled monster illustration who serves as a companion and supporter to users within the app.  Driven by her passion and after refining her ideas while navigating her own experiences with anxiety, Ania brought Rootd to life.  The initial version of the app, launched on World Mental Health Day, was simpler but embodied the core values of Rootd, focusing on stigma-breaking design and accessibility, and featured a prominent panic attack button that was free to use.  Despite its niche focus on panic attack relief, the app resonated with users and received positive feedback.
Growth Channels
The most powerful driver of growth so far has been working on Rootd’s app store optimization, as this drives organic growth. Ania knew that on the app stores, her keywords, screenshots, description, ratings, reviews, downloads, app reliability, and more all complement each other, so building an amazing solution and clearly and attractively presenting it are pretty much critical foundations. She optimizes all of those elements to rank as high as possible within the stores. At launch, Anioa created a targeted marketing in the lead-up to World Mental Health Day (October) and International Women’s Day (March). Lastly, marketing this app successfully has meant being featured in the App Store and prominent publications including those focusing on Women's Health, The Time Magazine, and Healthline.
